Meet the Teachers
Why I love to teach: Because kids are the best! They are honest and speak from the heart. Interacting with a child and seeing them smile, laugh, and feel proud of themselves is beyond rewarding. I remember what it was like to be a child and always try to settle any fears or challenges they may have. I love to explore, learn and laugh with them.
Pets Name: Moon the Maltipoo, Pippi the Poodle, Jolie the Pony
Where do you live?: Charlottenlund, Denmark (but come from New York, and my parents come from Ireland).
Favorite food: It’s a tie between Indian Dahl and French Fries!
Favorite happy place in the world: Summertime at the creek in East Durham, New York (my family’s summer house in the Irish part of the Catskill Mountains).
Why I love to teach: Teaching is an extraordinary and awe-inspiring responsibility. I believe after parents; teachers are the most influential and important adults in a child's life. I still remember all of my primary school teachers, and I was fortunate to have a loving and nurturing school experience. I get energy from the beautiful, unique minds I teach and look forward to my lessons because I will always learn from the students. I love seeing students' confidence grow in real-time as they explore, learn and challenge themselves. I can't think of another profession where your contribution to a kinder world is more profound and direct.
Pets name: Zoe ( also a coton de tulear)
Where do you live: Hellerup, Denmark
Favorite Food: A hot steamy bowl of homemade chicken soup! ( which is on the stove now).
Favorite happy place in the world: Our family summer house in Drakes Island, Wells Me, the USA.
Why I love to teach: Watching students meet the cooking class challenges with open eyes and lots of questions is wonderful. I get a real kick out of seeing their smiling faces when they accomplish the tasks at hand. If I can make them feel at ease and respected for their contribution to the class, I bet they will gain a bit of the confidence needed to be curious, take chances and explore all of life with real vigor!... and THAT would be amazing!
Pet’s name: I have a sweet little ole' dog named Bentley. He is a Coton de Tulear - which sounds super fancy! Cotons are a breed from Madagascar! He is 16 pounds of cuddly love!
Where do you live: I live in Toronto, Ontario in Canada! Toronto is not far from Buffalo - less than two hours by car! I am an American though. I grew up in Michigan and lived in Boston and New York before moving to Toronto!
Favorite food: Now this is a challenge! I can give you a few favorites that top my list! Soft tacos, hamburgers, greek salad, homemade chicken soup, and obviously... Pizza! Okay... Pizza wins!!!
Favorite happy place in the world: My happy place is being home with family and friends - sitting around the dining table sharing a meal together and chatting about life.
Why I love to teach: It provides the opportunity to make a positive difference in the life of a child…as it gives the necessary tools to cook, shop, and prepare healthy meals. To see a child experience a new culture through food is exciting. It opens up a new world for them. I want to show young people that with hard work you can accomplish nearly any goal.
Pet’s name: I have the cutest dog in the world! Her name is Lola, she is a mix of Schnauzer and Terrier. Lola was born in Puerto Rico but now lives in Florida with me. Her favorite thing is to have her belly rubbed and chase lizards!
Where do you live: I live in Delray Beach, Florida, about a 3-hour drive to Disney World! Growing up, I lived in many different states and other countries.
Favorite food: Hmmm! I have MANY, but my top 4 are:
Cacio de Pepe - it’s hard to pronounce, but super easy to make. Its pasta with cheese and black pepper - YUM!
Pizza - with a super-thin crust and extra cheese!
Salmon - prepared in just about any way possible!
Stuffed artichokes…they look a bit weird, but are delicious…and, you get to eat it with your hands!
Favorite happy place in the world: Sitting under an umbrella with Lola at the beach - watching and listening to the waves and seabirds….and of course….with some really yummy snacks!
