Hi there! My name is Cleopatra, but people call me Cleo for short. My name means “glory of the father” in Greek. I was born in Athens and have been living here for twelve years—my whole life. I love everything about my country and can’t wait to welcome you here!

The capital of Greece is Athens.

The population is just over 11 million, although the entire country itself is smaller than Alabama!
The currency in Greece has been the Euro since 2002. Before that, the drachma was used.
The official language is Greek, which dates back 34 centuries in written records. It has its own alphabet of 24 letters. In its ancient form, Greek is the language of the New Testament in the Bible.
Greek culture has been shaped over thousands of years. After the Byzantine Empire (also known as the Roman Empire) fell to the Ottoman Empire (Turkish Empire), Greek revolutionaries fought a war for independence. It lasted from 1821 to 1829.

Acropolis of Athens
Looking out across the city, Acropolis is the Olympic city’s most popular attraction. Built during the height of ancient Greek’s power, the Acropolis of Athens is a true statement building.

Mount Lycabettus
According to legend, the Greek God Athena released Mount Lycabettus from her possession, dropping into the area now known as Athens. Visitors can walk or take a tram up the mountain.

Delphi
A tremendously important archaeological site, Delphi, some 70 miles from the capital, is steeped heavily in Greek mythology. Believed to be a religious site chosen by the ancient God Zeus himself, Delphi is a wondrous place to experience.
