Sweden is officially the Kingdom of Sweden, with King Carl XVI Gustaf as head of state. There is also the Riksdag, Sweden’s parliament, which chooses the prime minister in elections every four years.

• The capital of Sweden is Stockholm and the population is just over 9 million.

• The currency is the Swedish krona, also called the Swedish crown. The plural form is kronor, and the krona is broken down into 100 öre. Our country has voted to not use the Euro, which many European countries use today.

• The official language is Swedish, which is a North Germanic language, and similar to Danish and Norwegian.

Popular meals in Sweden involve fish, meat, and potatoes. Swedish meatballs, traditionally served with gravy, are a popular dish, and lingonberry jam, pancakes, lutfisk (a certain type of white fish), and Smörgåsbord, a buffet-style meal with many different dishes are often eaten.
